You probably look at this picture and say "Shoot, how can I have as much fun as they're having? Where'd she get that top from? Geez that drink looks refreshing...But I'm broke."
Yes, we all want to be beautiful and full of sunlight and drinking fruity bebidas all the time. After all, when you're traveling you want to meet people and see new places. NEWS FLASH: You've set your expectations too high. While yes, my friends Hannah (left) and Jacks (left) and I had a blast that night, we don't do that every single night.
Okay, so maybe last week I went out four out of five days, but hey. I'm 20 and living in a city where I'm legal and where 4 am marks the peak of the club atmosphere--the real parties don't start until the second "half" of the night.
Here was my schedule...Wednesday night: club. Friday: botanical garden electronic festival (yeah that was a freaking hurricane of beer and grinding). Friday night: club. Saturday night: club. Sunday: beaches and beaches and beaches allll day.

Wait, why the HELL are you promoting this insane night life you have when you JUST said it was unrealistic? Good question, attentive reader. Here's my point.
Regardless of how packed my weekend was (and how loosey-goosey I got), my intentions have been to dive into the culture of Chile. And I've certainly done that. Young chileans really do go out at least once if not twice a week and they certainly don't come home before midnight. HOWEVER, there's plenty of other things to do. Like eat and eat and eat, and walk off all that white void-of-benefits bread.
The week I've had so far is what you should expect more regularly: nights in conversing with your host family and/or roommates, doing homework (what's a grade?), reading (haha! no.), and watching Netflix (okay, maybe). Or, if you're trying to get out of the box AND want to stay in (see what I did there?) cook for your family like I did.

Money saving tip: have them share the cost of the groceries. Nothing says "I love you, let's be family" like a communal home-cooked meal. Also, avoid buying red meat in Chile. It's super pricey and let's face it, less healthy and not as delicious as those salmon burgers. Or as decadent as the "salsa verde" mi mama chilena makes out of mayo, cilantro, lemon and garlic.
